Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Coverage

We are pleased to inform you that Vancouver Dental Studio now accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for general dentistry services. The CDCP is a federal initiative designed to provide dental coverage to eligible Canadian residents who do not have dental benefits and whose household income is under $90,000 per year.

Who is Eligible for CDCP?

The CDCP is available to Canadian residents who:

  1. Do not have access to dental insurance
  2. Have an adjusted family net income of $90,000 or less per year
  3. Are Canadian residents for tax purposes
  4. Have filed a tax return in the previous year

Eligible individuals should receive a Welcome Package from Sun Life Canada, which will include a membership card and a benefit start date. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact us and we will assist you in verifying it.

How Does CDCP Coverage Work?

The CDCP will reimburse a portion of your dental treatment costs. However, please note that it may not cover the entire cost of treatment. Additional charges may apply if:

  1. Your adjusted family income is between $70,000 and $89,999, in which case a co-payment may be required.
  2. The CDCP fee guide rates are lower than the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) Fee Guide rates used by our clinic, meaning you may need to cover the difference.
  3. You choose services that are not covered under the CDCP

Co-payment Details Based on Income

  1. For those with an adjusted family income under $70,000: The CDCP covers 100% of eligible services.
  2. For those with an adjusted family income between $70,000–$79,999: The CDCP covers 60% of eligible services, and you will need to cover 40% as a co-payment.
  3. For those with an adjusted family income between $80,000–$89,999: The CDCP covers 40% of eligible services, and you will need to cover 60% as a co-payment.

Services Covered by the CDCP

The CDCP covers a wide range of essential dental services, including but not limited to:

  1. Diagnostic services: Examinations and radiographs (X-rays)
  2. Preventive services: Cleanings, fluoride treatments, and preventive care
  3. Restorative services: Fillings, crowns, and other restorative treatments
  4. Endodontic services: Root canals and related treatments
  5. Prosthodontic services: Dental Crowns and other prosthetic treatments
  6. Oral surgery services: Extractions and other surgical interventions

Please note that certain services may require preauthorization, and not all services are covered under the CDCP.

Before Your Appointment

If you are enrolled in the CDCP, please call us before your appointment with your CDCP membership number. This allows us to verify your eligibility and coverage for the upcoming treatment. If you are uncertain about which services are covered, we are happy to discuss your treatment plan in advance to ensure there are no surprises.

Important Information:

  1. Your CDCP membership card and benefit start date are essential before receiving care under the program.
  2. Services can only be covered starting from your coverage start date.
  3. You may need to pay any outstanding balance if your treatment exceeds the CDCP coverage limits or includes services not covered by the plan.

We are committed to helping our patients access more affordable dental care through the CDCP. If you have any questions or would like to verify your eligibility, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

To apply or learn more about the CDCP, you can visit Health Canada’s CDCP page.

There will be a range of coverage percentage based on annual household income:
  1. Households with an annual income of less than $70,000: coverage will be 100%, with no out-of-pocket fees for plan members for eligible treatment
  2. Households with an annual income of $70,000-79,999: coverage will be 60%, with the member copay being 40%.
  3. Households with an annual income of $80,000-89,999: coverage will be 40%, with the member copay being 60%.

Please note: At Vancouver Dental Studio, we follow the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) fee guide. Any costs beyond what is covered by the CDCP may result in out-of-pocket expenses for patients.
